What is a webinar? If you don't know what a webinar is,
don't worry - it's simple. A webinar is just like a seminar, except that
it's given by a remotely located instructor via video and/or audio transmitted
over the web. You can also dial-in to the webinar from any phone (audio only), if you prefer.
As a webinar participant, you can easily ask questions
to the instructor anytime through the built-in messaging function as well as during periodic question-and-answer periods.
(You can also send private messages to friends who may be in attendance with you!)
Absolutely no software is required beyond a normal web browser.
Since the webinar is held on a regular webpage, you can access it from any terminal. If you have
technical questions, you can call us at (866) 792-6164.
Are the editing services actually free?
Yes! If you register for the webinars, you will have the option of
selecting one of the four editing services within a 12-month period, at no cost to you:
- Developmental review of your dissertation outline, including two 30-minute phone consultations
- Global review of a dissertation, including a 30-minute phone consultation (20,000 word limit)
- APA style edit of a dissertation body text excerpt (10,000 word limit)
- APA style edit of dissertation tables, figures, and references
How long can I use the editing services? The free editing services are
available for 12 months after registration.
What if I miss a session? If you miss a session, you can always access
the recorded version later or you can register for another session if there is another
scheduled session in the semester.
How do I register? Register by signing up for one or more of the webinar sessions
here. Once you've signed up for at least one webinar session,
we will send you an invoice to the email address you signed up with. You can then complete the
registration by securely paying for the service online via credit card. Note that the fee of $195 entitles
you to attend all four of the sessions in the webinar series.
What do you do with my email address? We keep it in our records, but we
NEVER give it to third parties. See our confidentiality policy here.
Do you make special accommodations for groups or programs? Yes, contact us if you
would like to schedule a special seminar. Generally, we are able to schedule individualized seminars for groups of 10 or more.
Do you allow refunds? We allow refunds to registrants prior to the first webinar,
which is the evening of Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009. Absolutely no refunds will be given after that session begins.
Who will be giving the webinar sessions? The webinars will be led by StyleMatters
instructors, all of whom have presented writing seminars to academic and professional groups in the past,
and to nursing doctoral programs in particular. These instructors are also editors, so they will be able
to field questions on all aspects of the dissertation process as it relates to PhD, DNP and EdD nursing
programs. In many cases, the instructor would also be the editor who helps you through the dissertation process!
What if I lose my login information? There is no login information required! All
you need is your email address and your name. It's very simple: if you've paid, you have access to all
the semester's webinars.
How do I access the recorded sessions? Registrants will have full access to
archived recordings during the semester. You will be notified by email how to retrieve them once they are posted.
What is a "Developmental review of a dissertation outline"? In a developmental
review of a dissertation outline, an editor will review your outline and discuss with you strategies
for approaching the writing process, possible ways to organize and structure the manuscript,
and areas where arguments or logic are weakest. The editor works in a series of consultations with the author,
helping to make the outline as strong as possible before the actual writing begins. (Under no circumstances
does the editor participate in the actual writing.)
What is a "Global review of a dissertation?" In a global review,
the author gains an assessment of his or her dissertation's strengths and weaknesses, something that is
sometimes difficult to achieve when an author is in the thick of writing. The editor plays a consulting
role, helping the author take note of and solve issues in structure, logic, gaps in research, clarity of
communication and organization.
